中国大学生英语写作中的句法错误认知分析的中期报告 Introduction ChinesestudentsoftenfacedifficultiesinwritingEnglishcompositionsduetotheirnativelanguage'sstructuraldifferences.ThesechallengesinsentencestructureoccurbecausestudentsmaynothavefullycomprehendedtheEnglishgrammarrules,thusresultinginimpropersentencestructures.ThisresearchaimstoanalyzethecognitivefactorsthatcontributetoChinesestudents'errorsinsentencestructureswhenwritinginEnglish. LiteratureReview PreviousstudieshaveinvestigatedthefactorsthatleadtoChinesestudents'poorwritingabilityandattributedittotheirmothertongue'sinfluence.AlthoughtheChineselanguage'ssentencestructurehasdifferentrulesfromEnglish,thisdifferenceshouldnotpreventChinesestudentsfromachievinghighwritingproficiencyinEnglish.AstudybyZhangandLiang(2019)showedthatChinesestudents'errorsinEnglishwritingwerebecauseofneglectingEnglishgrammarrules,whichhasresultedinawkwardsentencestructures.ThestudysuggestedthateducatingstudentsontheimportanceofEnglishgrammarcouldhelpimprovetheirwritingskills. Methodology Thisresearchemployedaqualitativeapproachwhereaquestionnairewasdistributedto50ChinesestudentswhoarestudyingEnglishasasecondlanguageinauniversity.Thequestionnaireincludedopen-endedquestionswherestudentswereaskedabouttheirperceivedchallengesinwritingEnglishcompositions.Thecollecteddatawereanalyzedusingthematicanalysistoidentifythedifferentcognitivefactorscontributingtostudents'Englishsentencestructureerrors. Results TheanalysisofthedatarevealedthefollowingcognitivefactorswhichcontributetoChinesestudents'errorsinEnglishsentencestructures: 1.TranslatingChinesetoEnglishverbatim:StudentstendtotranslateChinesesentencesdirectlyintoEnglishwithoutconsideringEnglishgrammarrules.Thisresultsinawkwardsentencestructures. 2.LackofunderstandingofEnglishgrammarrules:StudentsstrugglewithEnglishsentencestructuresbecausetheylackathoroughunderstandingofEnglishgrammarrules.Thisresultsinawkwardsentencestructures. 3.ThetendencytofollowChinesesentencestructures:StudentstendtouseChinesesentencestructur
