一、课程的性质、地位、作用及与其他课程的联系
本课程是英语专业本科的一门专业必修课。目的是使学生能够比较系统地掌握英语词汇的知识，比较深入地了解英语词汇的现状及其历史演变过程，并能对现代英语词汇发展的趋势和所出现的现象作出分析和解释，提高运用英语的能力。通过本课程的学习，学生应能分析英语单词的结构，了解英语的各种构词方法，能够较好地分析英语单词的意义及词义关系，了解英语词汇的构成、词义演变的原因和过程，了解英语词汇的来源、最新发展和国别特征，了解英语成语及英语词典的有关知识。
本课程的先修课程为“基础英语”、“高级英语”和“英语语法”等课程。
