Thankyouforinvitingmeheretoday.Itistrulyanhonortobehere,andIcongratulateyouoncelebratingyour70thanniversary.
感谢你们今天邀请我来这里。非常荣幸来到这里，并祝贺你们70周年校庆。
Thestartofaschoolyearmarksanewbeginningforstudents.Andsoit’sfittingthatI’mheretotalkaboutanewbeginningofmyown.
新学年的开始，对学生们来说标志着一个新起点，所以也正适合我在这儿谈谈我自己的新起点。
IwanttosayhowgratefulIamforthewarmwelcomethatmyfamilyandIhavereceivedfromtheChinesepeople.
我要说，我非常感谢中国人民对我家人和我的热情欢迎。
Asyouknow,myancestralhomeisinTaishaninGuangdongprovince.Sinceourarrival,thepeopleofChinahavemademyentirefamilyfeel,simplyput:athome—Andwearegrateful.
正如你们所知，我的祖籍在广东省台山。从自我们抵达以后，中国人民就让我们全家人感觉，简单地说，像在家里一样——我们很感谢。

我知道人们对我作为大使的任期有着非常高的期望。

我知道为什么。我是第一个担任此职的华裔美国人。并且，我确实有着过硬的经历：
•Asagovernor;
•作为一名州长；
•AsCommerceSecretary;and
•作为商务部长；还有
•AsamanwhohasmasteredtheartofbuyinghisowncoffeeANDcarryinghisownluggage!
•作为一个掌握了自己买咖啡和自己背包这门艺术的男人。
IwilldothebestIcanasU.S.Ambassador.
作为美国大使，我会尽自己最大努力。
AndalthoughthereismuchworkaheadtostrengthenandexpandU.S.-Chinacooperation—andtomanageourdifferenceswhenwedon’tseeeye-to-eye—Ibeginmyambassadorshipwithconfidencethattheoverallstateofourrelationshipisstrong.
尽管还要做很多工作来加强和扩大美中合作，并且要在我们意见不一时处理好我们的分歧，但在上任之际，我坚信我们的整体关系是强劲有力的。
OnethingIdoknowisthatthepeopleinthisroomwillhavealotofinfluenceinthefutureoftheU.S.-Chinarelationship.
我所确知的一点是，这里在座的人将来会对美中关系有很大的影响力。
