INTRODUCTIONOFMERCEDES-BENZ 英文112班张保征 Mercedes-BenzMercedes-BenzisaGermanbrandnameofautomobiles,buses,coaches,andtrucksownedbyDaimlerChrysler,previouslyDaimler-Benz(1926–1998).Mercedes-Benzautomobileshaveintroduced—bothinthepastandpresent—themajorityoftechnologicalandsafetyfeaturescommoninmodernvehicles.Establishedin1871,Benz&Cie.wasthemostimportantofseveralcompaniesfoundedbyKarlBenz.TheBenzpatentmotorwagonwasaheadofitstimes;by1886,Benzhadthefirstfour-strokeengine.KarlBenziscreditedastheinventorofthefirst"true"automobilesinceDaimler'svehiclewasahorsecarriageadaptedwithanengine,whereasthe1886Benzautomobilehadachassisdesignedfromscratch.DaimlerMotorenGesellschaft-(DMG)wasfoundedbyGottliebDaimlerandhispartnerWilhelmMaybachin1890.Daimlerdiedin1900andMaybachleftDMGin1907.Bythen,Benz&Cie.andDMGwererivals.In1924,owingtoeconomicnecessityafterWorldWarI,theyenteredintoan"AgreementofMutualInterest"validuntiltheyear2000.Thisinitialagreementstillallowedeachcompanytomanufactureandselltheirproductsundertheiroriginalbrandnames.AftertheofficialmergerinJune28,1926,thefirmbecameknownasDaimler-Benz.ThehyphenatedbrandnameMercedes-Benzwasestablishedafterthatmerger.ThebrandnameDaimlerhadbeenlicensedforuseonotherautomobilesinFranceandtheUnitedKingdom,andwasthereforenotavailabletoDaimler-Benz.Instead,thenameofitsseminalMercedesmodeldesignedbyMaybachovertwentyyearsbeforewaschosenfortheDMGportionofthenewbrand.("Mercedes"hadbeenpaintedonaDMGvehicleusedinracesbyamaninhonorofhisdaughter,andbecametheformalnameofaDMGmodelin1902,seebelow.)Thus,Mercedes-Benzbecamethebrandnameappliedtothemodelsofoneofthenewfirm.BecauseofitseponymoustietoKarlBenzandhisearlyvehicles,Mercedes-Benzisalsothenameoftheworld'soldestcontinuouslyproducedautomobileline.Aspartofthe1926merger,anewlogowascreatedthatwouldincludeasymbolforeachandintegratethenamesofthetwoformercompanies.Athree-pointedstarhadbeendesignedbyGottliebDaimler,toshowtheabilityofhismotorsforland,air,andseause.ThisstarfirstappearedonaDMGmodelin1909,soitwasch
