Introduction Thesafetyofbuildingsagainstaccidentalordeliberateexplosiveattackhasbeenacrucialissueinrecentyears.Theabilityofstructurestowithstandexplosiveimpactloadsisanessentialaspectofbuildingdesignandconstruction.Oneoftheprimaryobjectivesofstructuralengineeringistoensurethesafetyofstructuresandtheoccupants.Reinforcedconcretecolumnsareafundamentalcomponentofanybuilding,andtheirperformanceunderexplosiveimpactloadsisofutmostimportance. Theexplosiveimpactloadsonreinforcedconcretecolumnscancausehighstrainrates,pressure,shockwaves,andvibrations,resultinginundesirablestructuraldamage.Thebehaviorofreinforcedconcreteunderdynamicconditionsdifferssignificantlyfromthatunderstaticloading.Therefore,adetailedstudyofthedynamicbehaviorofreinforcedconcretecolumnsisnecessary. Inthisstudy,anumericalsimulationofthedynamicresponseofreinforcedconcretecolumnsunderexplosiveimpactloadsisperformed.Thestudyaimstoidentifythecriticalfactorsthataffecttheperformanceofreinforcedconcretecolumnsundertheseloadings,suchasthestrain,stress,displacement,andvelocity. DynamicResponseAnalysis ThenumericalsimulationofthedynamicresponseofreinforcedconcretecolumnsunderexplosiveimpactloadswascarriedoutusingtheANSYSsoftwarepackage.Afiniteelementmodelofthereinforcedconcretecolumnwascreatedwiththedimensionsof200mm×200mm×2000mm(L×W×H).Theconcretewasmodeledusingtheconcretedamagedplasticitymodel,whereasthereinforcementwasmodeledwiththesteelbilinearisotropichardeningmodel.Theexplosiveimpactloadwasappliedtothetopofthecolumn,andthedynamicresponseofthecolumnwasanalyzed.
