ThisisdowntobetterpolicinginKenya,TanzaniaandUgandaandperhapsaslightdownturnindemandfromthekeymarketssuchasChina,whichcarriedoutthefirstpublicdestructionofivoryearlierthisyear. ThereisalsotheriseindemandinChinaforlegalmammothivorythatismainlyexportedfromRussia,whichmayalsoindicateagrowingawarenessoftheconnectiontoelephantsandawillingnesstolookatalternatives. Whilethesemaybepositiveindicators,thereporthighlightscontinuingbadnews. TheslaughterofelephantsisrisingincountriesliketheCentralAfricanRepublic,wherelocalpopulationsremainonthevergeofextinction.
