Background Peer-to-peerstreamingisausefultechnologyfordistributinglargemediafiles,suchasvideosandaudiofiles.InP2Pstreaming,peersexchangedatawitheachothertoreducetheloadontheserverandenhancethestreamingperformance.However,selectingthebestpeersisasignificantchallengeinP2Pstreaming.Manyexistingneighborselectionmechanismsonlyconsiderthedownloadrateortheuploadrateofpeers,whichcanleadtosuboptimalperformance. ProposedMechanism Ourproposedmechanismselectsneighborsbasedontheireffectivecapacity,whichtakesintoaccounttheavailablecapacityofneighborsandtheaverageutilizationoftheircapacity.Thisallowsforamoreefficientselectionofneighborsthatcanprovidebetterstreamingperformance.Specifically,weuseaweightedfunctiontomeasuretheeffectivecapacityofeachneighbor.Thefunctionconsidersthedownloadanduploadrates,aswellasthecurrentusageofthecapacity.Wealsouseadynamicthresholdmechanismtoavoidselectingpeersthatmayhavehigh-capacitybutlowutilizationrates,whichcanleadtoinefficientuseofthenetworkresources. Evaluation Weevaluateourproposedmechanismusingasimulation-basedapproach.Wecompareourmechanismwithtwoexistingmechanisms,namelyRarestFirstandGreedySelection.Weusethreemetricstoevaluatetheperformance,namelytheaveragestreamingrate,thepercentageofpeersthatcontributetothestreaming,andtheoveralltrafficinthenetwork.Ourresultsshowthatourproposedmechanismoutperformsthetwoexistingmechanismsintermsofallthreemetrics.Specifically,ourmethodachievesanaveragestreamingratethatis20%higherthantheothertwomethods.Thepercentageofcontributorpeersisalsomuc
