Introduction Nanoparticleaerosolsarecomposedoftinyparticleswithsizesrangingfrom1to100nanometers.Theseaerosolsareofgreatconcernduetotheirpotentialadverseeffectsonhumanhealthandtheenvironment.Tobetterunderstandandmitigatetheseeffects,itiscrucialtodevelopanalyticaltechniquesthatcanaccuratelycharacterizeandanalyzenanoparticleaerosols.Massspectrometryisapowerfultoolfortheanalysisofaerosols,asitallowsfortheidentificationandquantificationofindividualparticlesbasedontheirmass-to-chargeratio. Thecapillaryinletinterfaceisacommonlyusedmethodforthetransferofaerosolsintothemassspectrometer.Thisinterfaceconsistsofacapillarytubethatactsasasamplingprobe,drawingaerosolparticlesintothemassspectrometerforanalysis.Theefficiencyandreliabilityofthisinterfaceintransferringnanoparticleaerosolshavenotbeenextensivelystudied.Therefore,inthisstudy,weaimtoinvestigatethetransfercharacteristicsofthecapillaryinletinterfacefornanoparticleaerosolmassspectrometry. ExperimentalMethods Tostudythetransfercharacteristicsofthecapillaryinletinterface,weusedacustom-builtnanoparticleaerosolmassspectrometerequippedwithacapillaryinletinterface.Theinterfaceconsistedofacapillarytubewithasmallinnerdiameter,connectedtoapumpforaspirationofaerosolparticles.Apolydisperseaerosolwithabroadrangeofparticlesizeswasgeneratedusinganebulizer.Theaerosolwasthendrawnintothemassspectrometerthroughthecapillaryinletinterface,whereitwasanalyzed.
