Four-SidedElementStabilizedFiniteElementMethod Thefour-sidedelementstabilizedfiniteelementmethodiswidelyusedinfluidmechanicstosolveproblemsofincompressiblesteadyflow.Thismethodiscapableofhandlingconvective-dominatedflows,whicharecharacterizedbylargeconvectivetermsintheNavier-Stokesequations. Oneoftheprimaryadvantagesofthestabilizedfiniteelementmethodistheabilitytocontrolthenumericalerrors,particularlyinsituationswhereastandardfiniteelementmethodfails.Thestabilizationterm,whichisaddedtothestandardGalerkinformulationinthestabilizedfiniteelementmethod,ischosenbasedontheparticularanalyticalformoftheproblembeingsolved. Inthefour-sidedelementstabilizedfiniteelementmethod,itisthestabilizationofthepressuretermthatisessential.Thestabilizationtermisincludedinthepressureequation,wherethepressureisextrapolatedfromthenodalvaluesofthevelocity.Thestabilizationtermisaddedtotheequationtostabilizethemethodandtoensurethatthepressuresatisfiesthecontinuityequation.
