II.DisasterRecoveryTiering DisasterrecoverytieringistheprocessofcategorizingITapplications,systems,andservicesbasedontheircriticalityandthelevelofprotectionandrecoveryrequiredintheeventofadisruption.Tieringisacrucialelementofadisasterrecoveryplanbecauseitenablesanorganizationtoprioritizerecoveryeffortsandallocateresourceseffectively. ThereareseveralwaystocategorizeITassetsintodifferenttiers,butmostorganizationsuseatieredsystemthatrangesfromTier0(mostcriticalassets)toTier4(leastcriticalassets).Tier0applicationsaretypicallymission-criticalandrequirealmostreal-timerecovery,whereasTier4applicationsareconsiderednon-essentialandhavelongerrecoverytimeobjectives(RTOs)andrecoverypointobjectives(RPOs). Thechoiceofadisasterrecoverytieringstrategydependsonseveralfactors,suchasbusinessrequirements,recoveryobjectives,andbudget.Forinstance,anorganizationthatprioritizeshighavailabilityandhasthebudgettosupportitmayoptforaTier1orTier0strategy,whichtypicallyinvolvesreplicatingcriticaldataandapplicationstoremotesitesinreal-time.Incontrast,anorganizationwithlimitedresourcesandanacceptablelevelofdowntimemaychooseaTier3orTier4strategy,whichreliesonbackupandrestoretechnologies.
