Background Pedestrianmodelingandsimulationareessentialtoolsindesigningpublicspacessuchassubwaycorridors.Severalmodelsexist,includingdiscreteeventmodels,cellularautomatamodels,andagent-basedmodels.Agent-basedmodelsarethemostpopular;theysimulatehuman-likebehaviorsandarebettersuitedforcomplexscenariossuchasthoseinsubwaycorridors. Thesocialforcemodelisawidelyusedagent-basedmodelthatcansimulatepedestrianbehaviorinavarietyofsituations.Inthismodel,pedestriansaretreatedasagentswhonavigatethroughtheirenvironmentbasedonexternalforcesappliedtothem.Theseforcesincludeinteractionforcesbetweenpedestrians,attractionandrepulsionforceswithenvironmentalfeatures,andfrictionalforcesthatoccurwhenapedestrianmoves. Methodology Theimplementationofthesocialforcemodelinthisstudyinvolvedthreemainsteps.First,datawerecollectedfromarealsubwaycorridorinacityinChina.Thedataincludedpedestrianmovementtrajectories,thewidthofthecorridor,andthepositionofenvironmentalfeaturessuchaswallsandobstacles.Second,thedatawereusedtocreateavirtualmodelofthesubwaycorridor.ThevirtualmodelwascreatedusingvisualprogrammingsoftwarecalledGrasshopper,whichwasinterfacedwiththeRhinosoftwaretocreateandrenderthe3Denvironment.Finally,thesocialforcemodelwasimplementedinthevirtualmodeltosimulatepedestrianmovements.
