Introduction: Inrecentyears,therehasbeenanincreasingdemandforaccurateandreliablepowermeteringsystems.Withtheriseofrenewableenergysourcesandsmartgridtechnologies,thereisaneedforprecisemeasurementandmonitoringofelectricalenergyconsumption.Thishasledtothedevelopmentofpowermeteringchipsthatcanprovidereal-timeenergyconsumptiondata.Theaccuracyofthesechipsdependsonthequalityoftheanalog-to-digitalconverter(ADC)used,and∑-Δmodulatorshavebeenproventobeaneffectivesolutionforachievinghigh-resolutionconversion. ∑-ΔModulatorDesign: The∑-Δmodulatorconsistsofseveralkeycomponents,includingalow-passfilter,quantizer,digital-to-analogconverter(DAC),andfeedbackloop.Themodulatoroperatesbyoversamplingtheinputsignal,whichhelpstoincreasetheresolution.Thelow-passfilterremoveshigh-frequencynoiseandshapesthenoisepowerspectrum.Thequantizerconvertsthefilteredsignalintoastreamofdigitalvalues,whicharethenfedbacktotheDAC.Thefeedbackloophelpsinreducingthenoiseanddistortionintroducedbythequantizationprocess.
