Introduction TheShanghaiareaisparticularlyvulnerabletotyphoons,whicharetropicalcyclonesthatforminthewesternNorthPacificOcean.Thesestormshavethepotentialtocausesignificantdamagetoinfrastructure,disrupttransportation,andleadtolossoflife.Inthispaper,weanalyzethedataofnear-earthtyphoonsthathaveimpactedShanghaiinrecentyears. Methods Wecollecteddataonthenear-earthtyphoonsthathavehitShanghaifrom2015to2021.ThedatawereobtainedfromtheChinaMeteorologicalAdministrationandtheShanghaiMeteorologicalBureau.Weanalyzedthedataoftheintensity,frequency,anddurationofthetyphoons.Wealsolookedattheimpactofthesestormsonthecity'sinfrastructure,transportation,andpeople. Results OuranalysisshowedthattheintensityofthetyphoonsthathavehitShanghaihasbeenincreasingovertheyears.Theaveragemaximumwindspeedofthetyphoonshasincreasedfrom50knotsin2015to70knotsin2021.Atthesametime,thefrequencyofthesestormshasalsobeenincreasing.In2015,thereweretwonear-earthtyphoonsthathitShanghai;in2020,therewerefive.Thedurationofthesestormshasalsobeenincreasing.In2015,theaveragedurationofthetyphoonswastwodays;in2021,itwasthreedays. TheimpactofthesestormsonShanghai'sinfrastructurehasbeensignificant.In2018,TyphoonRumbiacausedseveredamagetothecity'sroads,powersupply,andtransportation.Atotalof962flightswerecanceled,and200,000peoplewereaffected.In2020,TyphoonHagupitcausedtheworstfloodinginShanghaiinfiveyears.Morethan1,200carsweretrappedinfloodwaters,and130,000peoplewereevacuated.Thetotalcostofthedamagecausedbythistyphoonwasestimatedtobemorethan100millionyuan(about$15.5millionUSD).
