MechanismsofSoundRadiationfromFireworks Whenfireworksareignited,thecombustionprocessproduceshightemperaturesthatcausethesurroundingairtorapidlyexpand,generatingashockwave.Thisshockwaveresultsintheemissionofsoundwaves,whicharetheprimarysourceofsoundradiationfromfireworks.Thesoundwavesareproducedbytherapidfluctuationinpressurecausedbytheshockwaveandaretransmittedthroughtheairtocreatethesoundheardbyobservers. Thesoundwavesgeneratedduringthecombustionoffireworkscanbecategorizedintotwotypes:directandindirect.Directsoundwavesareproducedbythecombustionprocessitselfandareemitteddirectlyfromthesource.Indirectsoundwavesareproducedbythereflectionandrefractionofdirectsoundwavesastheybounceoffnearbysurfacessuchasbuildingsorhills.Thereflectionofsoundwavescanincreasetheiramplitude,orvolume,anddistorttheirfrequency,resultinginacharacteristicechothatcanbeheardbyobservers. ExperimentalResearchonSoundRadiationfromFireworks Severalexperimentalstudieshavebeenconductedtoinvestigatethemechanismsandeffectsofsoundradiationfromfireworks.InastudyconductedbyWanget.al(2017),theauthorsanalyzedthesoundradiationcharacteristicsofthreetypesoffireworks,eachcontainingdifferentamountsofgunpowder.Theresultsshowedthattheamplitudeandfrequencyofsoundwavesincreasedwiththeamountofgunpowderusedinthefireworks.Theresearchersalsofoundthattheechogeneratedbyindirectsoundwaveshadasignificantimpactontheperceivedsoundqualityoffireworksdisplays.
