EnglishpicturebooksplayacrucialroleinprimaryschoolEnglisheducationastheynotonlyenhancechildren'svocabularyandreadingskillsbutalsopromotetheirinterestandmotivationinlearningthelanguage.However,therearevariouschallengesfacedbyteachersineffectivelyutilizingpicturebooksasateachingtool.ThispaperaimstoinvestigatethesechallengesandproposeimprovementstrategiestoenhancetheeffectivenessofEnglishpicturebookteachinginprimaryschools.
Introduction:
Englishpicturebooksprovideyounglearnerswithanengagingandinteractiveplatformtodeveloplanguageskills.Theuseofpicturebooksinprimaryschoolshasgainedimmensepopularityduetotheirabilitytocaptivatetheattentionofstudentswhilefacilitatinglanguageacquisition.Despitetheirsignificance,teachersencounterseveralchallengeswhenincorporatingthisteachingmethodintheclassroom.Thisstudyexploresthesechallengesandpresentspotentialimprovementstrategiestooptimizetheteachingandlearningexperience.
ChallengesinTeachingEnglishPictureBooks:
1.LimitedVocabularyandSuitableContent:OneofthechallengesfacedbyteachersisthelimitedvocabularyinEnglishpicturebooksavailableforprimaryschoolstudents.Manypicturebooksaimedatthisagegrouptendtofocusonsimplervocabulary,whichcanlimitthedevelopmentofstudents'languageskillsandhindertheiroverallprogress.
2.CulturalContext:Picturebooksoftenshowcaseculturalcontextsthatmaynotbefamiliartothetargetstudents,causingconfusionandmisinterpretation.Thisculturalgapcanhinderstudents'understandingandengagementwiththecontent,decreasingtheirmotivationtolearn.
