Oneimportantaspectoflow-pressuredischargeswitchesistheflashovertriggermechanism.Flashovertriggerscanbeeithersurfaceflashoverorhigh-pressuregasbreakdown.Inthispaper,wewillfocusontheinvestigationofthecharacteristicsoflow-pressuredischargeswitchestriggeredbysurfaceflashover,whicharealsoknownassurfaceflashover-triggeredlow-pressureswitches. Experimentalsetupandmethodology Toinvestigatethepropertiesofsurfaceflashover-triggeredlow-pressureswitches,wedesignedandconstructedacustomexperimentalsetup.Theexperimentalsetupconsistsofavacuumchamber,atestelectrode,andahigh-voltagepowersupply.Thetestelectrodeisacylindricalelectrodewithadiameterof10mmandalengthof30mm.Theelectrodeismadeofcopper,whichiswell-suitedforsurfaceflashover. Tomeasurethedischargecurrentandvoltage,weusedaRogowskicoilandahigh-frequencycurrenttransformer.Thevoltagewaveformwasmeasuredusingacapacitivedivider. Totriggerthesurfaceflashover,weusedahigh-frequencypulsegenerator.Thepulsegeneratorwastriggeredbyaphotoconductiveswitch,whichproducedatriggersignalwhenilluminatedbylaserlight. Resultsanddiscussion Wefirstinvestigatedthedependenceofthedischargecurrentontheappliedvoltage.Wefoundthatthedischargecurrentincreasedexponentiallywiththeappliedvoltage.Thisbehaviorissimilartothewell-knownPaschencurve,whichdescribesthedependenceofthebreakdownvoltageonthegaspressure. Wetheninvestigatedthedependenceoftheflashovervoltageonthegaspressure.Wefoundthattheflashovervoltagedecreasedwiththegaspressure.Thisresultisconsistentwithpreviousstudiesonsurfaceflashover-triggeredhigh-pressureswitches. Wealsoinvestigatedthedependenceoftheswitchperformanceontheelectrodegeometry.Wefoundthattheswitchperformancewassensitivetotheelectroderoughnessandsurfacetre
