Introduction Hailstorms,asoneofthesevereweatherhazards,havecausedsignificantlossestopeople'slivesandpropertyallovertheworld.InLijiangCity,locatedinthenorthwestofYunnanProvince,China,hailstormsmostlyoccurintheearlysummerduetoconvectiveweatheractivities.Hailstonesarearesultofstrongupdraftsanddowndraftsthatcausesmallwaterdropletsinthethunderstormtofreezeandaggregatebeforefallingfromtheclouds. Withthedevelopmentofscientifictechnologyandtheimprovementofdatacollectionmethods,theapplicationofradarandinfraredcloudimageshasincreasedinthefieldofmeteorology.Inrecentyears,thesetechnologieshavebeenwidelyusedtodetecttheformationandmovementofhailcloudsandpredictthehailstoneprecipitationarea,intensity,andduration. ThispaperanalyzestheinfraredcloudimagesandradarechofeaturesofhailweatherinLijiangCitytoimprovethepredictionaccuracyofhailstormsandprovidethebasisforearlywarningsystemsandeffectiveemergencyresponsemeasures. Methodology Inthisstudy,weanalyzedthedataobtainedfromtheLijiangMeteorologicalBureau'sweatherstation,combinedwiththeAdvancedWeatherInteractiveProcessingSystem(AWIPS)andSkew-Tanalysis.Weusedinfraredcloudimagestoobservetheformationandmovementofhailclouds,andradarechoestodetectprecipitationintensityandarea.Furthermore,weanalyzedthewindshear,watervapor,andothermeteorologicalelementstoexploretheinternalmechanismofhailstoneformation. Results InfraredcloudimagesshowthatthehailcloudsinLijiangCitytypicallyformintheafternoon,withthemaximumcloudtoptemperaturereaching-65°Cto-75°C.Thecloudsshowatypicalanvilshape,andthehighestpointsofth
