(Discussion) The2009ShanghaiInternationalAutomotiveWeatheringTechnologySymposiumwasheldtodiscussthelatesttrends,technologies,andtechniquesforenhancingthedurabilityofautomotiveproducts.Thesymposiumbroughttogetherresearchers,engineers,andindustrialistsfromvariousindustriesandacademicinstitutionstosharetheirknowledgeandexperiencesinweatheringtesting,materialsselection,andproductdesignforautomotiveproducts. Oneofthekeytopicsthatwerediscussedinthesymposiumwastheimpactofsunlightoncarpaintsandcoatings.Sunlightexposurecancausepainttofade,crack,andchipaway,leadingtoaestheticandfunctionaldefects.Therefore,carmanufacturersneedtodevelopnewtypesofcoatingsthatcanwithstandsunlightexposureand,atthesametime,maintaintheirappearanceandperformance.Researcherspresentedseveralmethodsoftestingtheresistanceofcarpainttosunlightexposure,includingacceleratedweatheringtests,lightstabilitytests,andoutdoorexposuretests.Theyalsodiscussedthevarioustechniquesofapplyingcoatings,suchaselectrostaticspraying,dipping,androll-to-rollcoating. Anothercriticalissuethatwasdiscussedinthesymposiumwasthedeteriorationofcarplasticsandrubbersduetoweathering.Plasticsandrubbersusedincarsaresusceptibletodegradationduetoexposuretosunlight,heat,andmoisture.Thisdegradationcanleadtosurfacecracking,brittleness,andlossofelasticity.Researcherspresentedvariousmethodsoftestingtheagingpropertiesofcarplastics,suchasthermalagingtests,therma
