EutrophicationandItsCauses Eutrophicationisanecologicalphenomenonthatoccurswhenexcessivenutrientsenterabodyofwater,causinganincreaseinthegrowthofalgaeandotheraquaticplants.ThemainsourcesofnutrientsinHongfengLakeReservoiraredomesticsewageandagriculturalrunoff.Therapiddevelopmentofthelocaleconomyandtheincreasingpopulationhaveledtoasignificantincreaseinthedischargeofdomesticsewage,whichcontainshighconcentrationsofnitrogenandphosphoruscompounds.Additionally,theuseoffertilizersinagriculturehasalsoincreasedtheamountofnitrogenandphosphorusthatenterthereservoirthroughagriculturalrunoff. CyanobacterialBloomsandTheirEffects Cyanobacterialbloomsareatypeofharmfulalgalbloomthatcanoccurineutrophicbodiesofwater.Cyanobacteriaareagroupofphotosyntheticbacteriathatcanproducetoxicsubstances,suchasmicrocystins,whichcancauseseriouspublichealthproblems,includingliverdamageandevendeath.Cyanobacterialbloomscanalsohavenegativeeffectsonfishandotheraquaticorganisms,leadingtodecreasedbiodiversityandecosystemhealth.
