OptimalBasisSelection Theselectionofanappropriatebasissetiscrucialforthesuccessofthescale-transformmethod.Theoptimalbasissetshouldbeabletocapturetheimportantfeaturesofthesignalorimageatvariousscales.Onewaytoselectabasissetistouseapredefinedsetoffunctionssuchaswavelets,Fourier,orGaborfunctions.Anotherapproachistouseadata-drivenmethod,suchasprincipalcomponentanalysis(PCA)orindependentcomponentanalysis(ICA),toidentifythebasisfunctionsfromtheinputsignalorimage.
