ASigma-DeltaModulatorcanbeusedinTCXOstominimizepowerconsumptionwhileimprovingoverallsystemaccuracyandnoiserejection.Thispaperwilldiscussthedesignandimplementationofalow-powerSigma-DeltaModulatorinthecontextofTCXO. OverviewofSigma-DeltaModulation Sigma-DeltaModulationisatechniquethatconvertsanalogsignalsintodigitalsignalsbyconvertingtheinputsignalintoasequenceofpulses.Theoutputofthemodulatorisaseriesofhigh-frequencypulsesthatrepresentadigitalapproximationoftheinput.Thenumberofpulsesrepresentsthemagnitudeofthesignal,whilethepulsewidthdeterminesthedurationofthesignal.Thistechniquehasproventobeaneffectivewayofachievinghigh-resolutionanalog-to-digitalconversionforlowfrequencies. Sigma-DeltaModulationrequiressomeformoffeedbackmechanismtomanagetheerrorbetweenthesampledsignalandthemodulatedoutput.Themodulatoroperatesbyprovidingafeedbacksignalthatadjuststheoutputpulsewidthwhiletheinputsignalisintegratedovertime.Anyvariationsintheinputsignalarerepresentedbyfluctuationsinthepulsewidth,andthefeedbackmechanismadjuststhepulsewidthtoreduceerrors.Thisfeedbackloopensuresthattheoutputaccuratelyrepresentstheinputsignal.
