Introduction: TheTarimRiverBasincoversavastareainnorthwestChina,withacomplextopographyanduniqueclimaticconditions.TheheadwatersoftheTarimRiverarelocatedintheTianshanMountains,whichreceivesubstantialprecipitationduetoorographiceffects.However,inrecentyears,theregionhasexperiencedsignificantclimatevariabilityandfrequentextremeweatherevents.StudyingtheprecipitationchangesintheheadwatersoftheTarimRiverBasinusingwaveletanalysiswillhelpinassessingtheimpactsofclimatechangeonthehydrologicalcycle. Methodology: Waveletanalysisisapowerfultoolforexaminingthemulti-scalevariabilityoftimeseries.Themainstepsinvolvedinthisstudyareasfollows: 1.Datacollection:ObtainhistoricalprecipitationdatafrommeteorologicalstationsintheheadwatersoftheTarimRiverBasin. 2.Preprocessing:Removeanyoutliersorerroneousdatapointsfromthedataset. 3.Decomposition:Applythewavelettransformtodecomposetheprecipitationtimeseriesintodifferentfrequencycomponents. 4.Powerspectrumcalculation:Calculatethepowerspectrumofeachfrequencycomponenttoexplorethedominantfrequenciesoftheprecipitationvariability. 5.Periodicitiesidentification:Identifytheperiodicitiesintheprecipitationtimeseriesusingwaveletcoherenceanalysis. 6.Trendanalysis:Investigatethelong-termtrendsinprecipitationusingwavelet-baseddetrendingtechniques.
