Introduction: Overthepastfewdecades,therapidincreaseinindustrializationhascausedthedegradationofwaterqualitysignificantly.Tomaintainahealthyenvironment,itisessentialtotreatthewastewatereffectivelybeforedischargingitintothenaturalwaterbodies.Theanaerobic-aerobicactivatedsludgemethodisthemostwidelyusedmethodinwastewatertreatmentduetoitshighefficiency,lowoperatingcost,andsimpleoperation.Thismethodhasbeensuccessfullyimplementedinmunicipalwastewatertreatmentplantsandindustrialwastewatertreatmentplants.Plus,ithasalsobeenproveneffectiveintreatingwastewaterfromothersourceslikethefoodindustry,paperindustry,etc. TheCODconcentrationisthemostcommonlyusedparametertodeterminetheorganicpollutionloadofwastewater.Anaerobic-aerobicactivatedsludgemethodcanremoveCODfromwastewatereffectively.However,themechanismoftherapidandlowoxygen-consumingremovalofCODinthismethodisstillthesubjectofmuchdebateandspeculation.
