Introduction Railwaydevelopmenthasimprovedtransportationandboostedeconomicgrowthinmanycountries.Railwaysubgradesrequireahighlevelofengineeringskillsandreliablematerialstoensurelong-termoperationandsafety.Traditionalmethodsofsubgradewideningincludeaddingsoil,sand,rocks,orothermaterials.However,thesematerialsareusuallyheavy,requirehightransportcosts,andneedbigmachineriesforconstruction.Duetotheselimitations,alternativematerialsthatarelighter,moreefficient,andcost-effectivehavebeendeveloped. Expandedpolystyrene(EPS)lightweightsoilisanewtypeofembankmentmaterialthathasbeenusedgloballyformanyyears.Itismadebymixingcement,water,andEPSbeads.Theresultingmixtureispouredinsituonthesubgradetoformafully-bondedlayer.Meanwhile,thissimpleandefficientprocessislesstime-consuming,morecost-effective,andeasytocontrol.
