Introduction Shalegasisanunconventionalnaturalgasresourcethatistrappedwithinshaleformations.Inrecentyears,shalegashasattractedincreasingattentionfromtheoilandgasindustryduetoitsvastpotentialresources,lowexplorationcosts,andenvironmentalbenefits.Chinahaslargeshalegasresources,withtheSichuanBasinbeingoneofthemostimportantareasforshalegasexploration. LocatedinsouthwesternChina,theSichuanBasinhasalargeareaofPaleozoicstrata,whichcontainabundantshalegasresources.TheLowerPaleozoicstrata,includingtheCambrianandOrdovicianformations,arethemostimportanttargetsforshalegasexploration.Inrecentyears,manyresearchstudieshavebeenconductedtobetterunderstandthegeologicalcharacteristicsoftheshalegasreservoirs,toevaluatetheshalegasresources,andtoexploreanddevelopshalegasintheSichuanBasin. GeologicalCharacteristicsoftheShaleGasReservoirs TheshalegasreservoirsintheLowerPaleozoicstrataoftheSichuanBasinhaveuniquegeologicalcharacteristicsthatmakethemsuitableforshalegasexploration.Thereservoirsarecharacterizedbyacomplexlithology,ahighorganiccontent,alowpermeability,andahighporosity.TheCambrianandOrdovicianformationsarerichinorganicmatter,andarecomposedmainlyofshale,withsomeinterbeddedsandstoneandlimestonelayers.
