Carbonnanotubesareapromisingmaterialforuseinuraniumadsorptionduetotheirhighsurfacearea,highmechanicalstrength,anduniqueelectronicproperties.However,todate,theirpracticalapplicationhasbeenlimitedbytheirrelativelylowadsorptioncapacity.Oneapproachthathasbeenexploredtoenhancetheuraniumadsorptioncapacityofcarbonnanotubesisthroughmodificationwithvariousfunctionalgroups. Inthisstudy,weinvestigatethepotentialformodificationofcarbonnanotubeswithhydrazinetoenhancetheiruraniumadsorptioncapacity. MaterialsandMethods Multi-walledcarbonnanotubes(MWCNTs)werepurchasedfromNanocylSa.HydrazinehydratewasobtainedfromSigmaAldrich.Allchemicalswereofanalyticalreagentgradeandusedwithoutfurtherpurification.TheMWCNTswerefunctionalizedwithhydrazineaccordingtothefollowingprocedure. First,500mgofMWCNTsweredispersedin350mLofdeionizedwaterbysonicationfor30minutes.Next,100mLofhydrazinehydratewasaddeddropwisetothemixtureundervigorousstirringandrefluxedfor24hat60°C.Thesamplewasthenwashedseveraltimeswithdeionizedwateranddriedundervacuumat60°C.TheresultingproductwasdenotedasMWCNT-NH2. Theuraniumadsorptionexperimentswereconductedbyaddingvarious
