Background Thetraditionalapproachtosingle-imagedehazingisbasedontheassumptionthatthetransmissionofthehazyimagedecreasesexponentiallywiththedepth.However,inreal-worldscenes,thehazeisnotdistributedevenly,andthistheoryisnotapplicableinmanysituations.Therefore,manyresearchershaveproposedalternativemethodstoovercomethisproblem.Onesuchmethodistousethedarkchannelprior,whichproposedbyKaimingHe. Methodology Theproposedmethodconsistsofthreesteps:predictingthedarkchannel,estimatingthetransmissionmap,andgeneratingthedehazedimage.Inthefirststep,thedarkchannelispredictedbyfindingtheminimumpixelvalueinalocalwindow.Then,thetransmissionmapisestimatedbysolvingalinearequationusingthedarkchannelandtheoriginalimage.Finally,thedehazedimageisgeneratedbydividingtheoriginalimagebytheestimatedtransmissionmap. Toimprovethespeedofthealgorithm,weusetheguidedfilterinthesecondstep.Theguidedfilterisafastandefficientimageprocessingtechniquethatpreservestheedgesandtexturesintheimage.Byusingtheguidedfilter,wecanestimatethetransmissionmapmoreaccuratelyandefficiently. ExperimentalResults Theproposedmethodwascomparedwithseveralstate-of-the-artmethodsusingbenchmarkdatasets.TheexperimentswereconductedonaworkstationwithanInteli7processorand16GBofRAM.Theresultsshowthatourmethodoutperformsothermethodsinvisualqualityandspeed.
