Introduction: Disinfectionby-products(DBPs)areformedwhendisinfectingagents,suchaschlorine,reactwithorganicmatterpresentintreatedwastewater.AmongDBPs,halogenatedaceticacids(HAAs)areofparticularinterestduetotheirpotentialcarcinogenicityandmutagenicity.Therefore,itisimportanttodevelopsensitiveandspecificmethodstomeasureHAAsinwastewater. Methods: 1.GasChromatography-MassSpectrometry(GC-MS): GC-MSisawidelyusedanalyticalmethodinenvironmentalstudiesduetoitshighsensitivityandselectivity.IntheanalysisofHAAs,thesampleisfirstderivatizedtoenhancevolatilityandthenseparatedbygaschromatography.Theseparatedcompoundsaresubsequentlyanalyzedbymassspectrometry,allowingforidentificationandquantificationofHAAs.Thismethodprovidesexcellentsensitivity,butitrequirescostlyinstrumentsandskilledoperators. 2.LiquidChromatography-MassSpectrometry(LC-MS): LC-MSisanalternativemethodforthedeterminationofHAAsinwastewater.Itoffershighsensitivityandselectivity,anditcanbeusedtoanalyzeHAAsdirectlywithoutderivatization.LC-MShasbecomeincreasinglypopularduetoitsabilitytoanalyzeawiderangeofpolarandnonpolarcompounds.However,itmayrequiremoreextensivesamplepreparationstepscomparedtoGC-MS. 3.IonChromatography(IC): ICisareliabletechniqueforthedeterminationofHAAs,asitallowsfortheseparationandquantification
