Introduction: Phenolproductionprocessesresultinthegenerationofphenolwastewater,whichcontainshighconcentrationsofphenoliccompounds,posingasignificantenvironmentalthreat.Traditionaltreatmentmethods,suchasbiologicaltreatmentandchemicaloxidation,havelimitationsintermsofefficiencyandcost-effectiveness.Therefore,itbecomescrucialtoexplorealternativetreatmentmethodsfortheremovalofphenoliccompoundsfromwastewater. Extractionadsorptionisapromisingmethodfortreatingphenolwastewaterduetoitsabilitytoselectivelyadsorbphenoliccompounds.Thismethodinvolvesusingsuitableextractionagentsandadsorbentstoseparatephenoliccompoundsfromtheliquidphase.Theextractedphenolscanbefurtherrecoveredforreuseortreatedseparately,minimizingtheenvironmentalimpact. Methods: Inthisstudy,alaboratory-scaleexperimentwasconductedtoevaluatetheefficiencyoftheextractionadsorptionmethodintreatingphenolwastewater.Theprocesscomprisedtwomainsteps:extractionandadsorption.Intheextractionstep,differentsolvents,suchashexane,toluene,andethylacetate,weretestedtodeterminethemostsuitableextractionagent.Variousparameters,includingcontacttime,solvent-to-waterratio,andtemperature,wereoptimizedtoachievethemaximumextractionefficiency.
