Introduction: Liquidcrystalpolymers(LCPs)exhibituniquepropertiessuchaslowshrinkage,highthermalstability,andexcellentmechanicalstrength,makingthemattractivematerialsformanyapplications.However,duringprocessingorundercertainoperatingconditions,LCPscandecompose,leadingtopotentialdegradationofperformanceandevensafetyhazards.Therefore,itisnecessarytounderstandthedecompositionbehaviorofLCPsandidentifythedecompositionproducts. Methods: Inthisstudy,commerciallyavailableLCPsampleswereanalyzedusingathermogravimetricanalyzer(TGA)coupledwithapyrolysisgaschromatography-massspectrometry(Py-GC-MS)system.TGAwasusedtoinvestigatetheweightlossanddecompositiontemperaturerangesoftheLCPsamplesundercontrolledheatingconditions.Py-GC-MS,whichcombinessamplepyrolysisandgaschromatography-massspectrometry,wasappliedtoanalyzethecompositionofthedecompositionproducts. Results: TheTGAcurvesoftheLCPsamplesexhibitedmulti-stepdecompositionprofiles,indicatingthatthedecompositionprocessoccurredinmultiplestages.Theinitialweightlosswasattributedtotheevaporationofvolatilecomponents,followedbythemaindecompositionstep,andfinallytheresidualashformation.Thetemperatureregionscorrespondingtoeachstagewereidentified.
