Introduction: ZizyphusjujubaMill,commonlyknownasjujubeorChinesereddate,isafruit-bearingplantwidelycultivatedinChinaandotherpartsofAsia.IthasbeenusedforcenturiesintraditionalChinesemedicineforitstherapeuticproperties.Amongitsbioactiveconstituents,Zizyphussaponinshaveattractedsignificantattentionduetotheirpotentialhealthbenefits,includingantioxidant,anti-inflammatory,andanticanceractivities.Therefore,optimizingtheextractionprocessofZizyphussaponinsisofgreatimportanceinordertomaximizetheiryieldandenhancetheirpotentialapplications. Methods: TheextractionofZizyphussaponinswascarriedoutusingasolventextractionmethod.Theindependentvariablesconsideredforoptimizationweretheextractiontime,solvent-to-materialratio,andextractiontemperature.Thelevelsofthesevariableswereselectedbasedonpreliminaryexperimentsandliteraturereview.Theresponsevariable,i.e.,theyieldofZizyphussaponins,wasusedtoevaluatetheoptimizationprocess. ResultsandDiscussion: TheextractionprocesswasoptimizedusingtheBox-Behnkendesign,whichgeneratedatotalof15experimentalruns.Theexperimentaldatawerefittedtoasecond-orderpolynomialequation,andthecoefficientofdetermination(R^2)wasusedtoassessthemodel'sfitness.TheR^2valueof0.9683indicatedahighcorrelationbetweenthevariablesandresponse.
