Introduction Surfacewaterisanessentialnaturalresourceinruralareas,asitprovidesvaluableservicessuchasirrigation,transportation,anddomesticuse.However,thequalityofsurfacewaterhasbeenaffectedbyavarietyoffactors,includinghumanactivities,naturalphenomena,andpollution.Therefore,monitoringthequalityofsurfacewaterinruralareasisessentialfortheprotectionofhumanhealthandtheenvironment.Inthisstudy,weaimtooptimizethelayoutofmonitoringpointsforsurfacewaterqualityinruralareasanddevelopanewevaluationmethodtobetterevaluatethewaterquality. Methods Thestudywasconductedinseveralruralareas,andthemonitoringpointswerelaidoutaccordingtodifferentscenarios.Thewaterqualitywasmonitoredateachmonitoringpoint,andtheresultswerecomparedandanalyzed.Thecharacteristicsofthewaterqualityweredeterminedbasedontheconcentrationofvariouspollutants,suchasnitrogen,phosphorus,andCOD.Anewevaluationmethodwasdevelopedbasedontheresultsofthemonitoring,incorporatingtheprincipleoffuzzymathematicsandmulti-criteriadecision-making.
