Introduction TianjinPortisoneofthebusiestportsinNorthernChina,servingasamajorgatewayforinternationaltrade.The7thand8thberthterminalsareamongthemostimportantpartsoftheport.However,duetoaging,wearandtear,andincreasingdemands,thestructuresoftheseterminalsneedtobereinforcedandtransformedtoensuretheirsafetyandstability. Thispaperaimstoexplorethefeasibilityofthisprojectbyexaminingthecurrentconditionofthetwoterminals,thecausesforthetransformation,theproposednewstructures,andthepotentialbenefitsoftheproject. Currentstatusofthetwoterminals The7thand8thberthterminalsofTianjinPortwerebuiltinthe1970sandhavebeeninuseforover40years.Thetwoterminalsaremainlyusedforloadingandunloadingofships,storageofgoods,anddistributionofcommodities.Theterminalsarecurrentlyequippedwithtraditionalcraneequipmentandhavealimitedcapacityforhandlinglargevessels.Theload-bearingcapacityofthequaystructurehasalsobeenweakenedduetoyearsofwearandtear,andtheriskofaccidentshasincreased. Reasonsforthetransformation Thereareseveralreasonsforthetransformationofthestructuresofthe7thand8thberthterminals.Firstly,thedemandforportserviceshasincreasedsignificantlyinrecentyears,andthecapacityofthetwoterminalsisinsufficienttomeetthesedemands.Secondly,theagingofthestructures,combinedwithdamagefromtheharshmarineenvironment,hasmadethemunstableandpronetofailure.Thirdly,thetraditionalcraneequipmentusedattheterminalslimitstheabilitytohandlelargervesselsandcargo,whichhasbecomeacompetitivedisadvantagecomparedtootherports.
