OneofthemostimportantfeaturesoftheWCDAReadoutASICistheTimeOverThreshold(TOT)technique,whichusesthetimedifferencebetweentheinputsignalexceedingacertainthresholdandthesignal'samplitudefallingbelowthethresholdtoestimatetheamplitudeofthesignal.ThispaperaimstodiscussthedesignoftheWCDAfront-endReadoutASICbasedonthecurrent-modeTOTtechnique. Current-modeTOTtechnique Thecurrent-modeTOTtechniqueisbasedontheprinciplethatacapacitorconnectedbetweentheinputsignalandtheinputstageoftheamplifierwillchargewhenevertheinputsignalexceedsthethresholdanddischargewhentheinputsignalfallsbelowthethreshold.Thetimedifferencebetweenthesignalexceedingthethresholdandthecapacitordischargingisproportionaltotheamplitudeoftheinputsignal. Thefront-endASICoftheWCDAReadoutASICusesacombinationofafastresponseamplifierandacurrent-modeTOTtechniquetocapturethesignalsfromthedetector.Theamplifierisdesignedwithalowinputimpedanceandagainof10,000tomaximizethesignal-to-noiseratio.TheTOTcircuitconsistsofacomparator,acurrentsource,andacapacitor.Whentheinputsignalexceedsthethreshold,thecomparatorgeneratesapulsethattriggersthecurrentsourcetochargethecapacitor.Whenthesignalfallsbelowthethreshold,thecapacitorbeginstodischarge,andthetimedifferencebetweentheseeventsisproportionaltotheinputsignalamplitude.
