Inthispaper,weproposeanovelmethodforlow-lightimageenhancementbasedoniterativemultiscaleguidedfilteringRetinex.TheRetinextheoryisbasedontheideathatanimageistheproductoftwofactors:reflectanceandillumination.Thereflectanceistheinherentpropertyofanobjectorscene,whileilluminationistheamountoflightthatilluminatestheobjectorscene.TheRetinextheoryaimstoseparatethesetwofactorstoachieveimageenhancement. 2.LiteratureReview Variousmethodshavebeenproposedforlow-lightimageenhancement,includinghistogramequalization,adaptivehistogramequalization,andcontraststretching.However,thesemethodsoftensufferfromissuessuchasover-enhancement,noiseamplification,andlossofcolorinformation.Toovercometheseissues,Retinex-basedmethodshavebeenproposed. TheRetinexalgorithmwasfirstproposedbyLandandMcCannin1971.Sincethen,variousRetinex-basedmethodshavebeenproposedforimageenhancement.Thesemethodsincludesingle-scaleRetinex,multiscaleRetinex,andguidedfilteringRetinex.Single-scaleRetinexusesafixed-scalekerneltoestimatethereflectanceandillumination.MultiscaleRetinexusesarangeofscalestoestimatereflectanceandilluminationatdifferentlevelsofdetail.GuidedfilteringRetinexusesaguidedimagetobetterpreserveedgesanddetailswhileenhancingtheimage.
