Introduction: Panicleblightisamajorthreattocornproduction,causingsubstantialyieldlossesandqualitydeterioration.ItisprimarilycausedbyFusariumverticillioidesandFusariumgraminearum,bothofwhichproducemycotoxinsthatareharmfultohumansandlivestock.Plantbreedingeffortstomitigatepanicleblighthavebeenhamperedbythecomplexgeneticbasisofresistance,necessitatingadeeperunderstandingoftheunderlyingmechanisms. Methods: Toinvestigatethegeneticcontrolofresistancetopanicleblight,adiversepanelofcorngermplasmlineswithknownvariabilityforthistraitwasevaluatedundercontrolledconditions.Thepanelwasgenotypedwithmolecularmarkersspanningtheentirelengthofthefourthchromosome.Diseaseseveritywasassessedusingstandardizedscoringsystems,andstatisticalanalyseswereemployedtoidentifyquantitativetraitloci(QTLs)associatedwithresistance.
