Introduction: Cyanideisapotentpoisonthatcancauseseverehealtheffectsevenatlowconcentrations.Thepresenceofcyanideinwatersourcesmaybenaturalortheresultofindustrialactivitiessuchasmining,metallurgy,andchemicalmanufacturing.Therefore,thereisanurgentneedforreliableandefficientmethodstomeasurecyanideconcentrationsinwater.FIAisawidelyusedtechniqueknownforitssimplicity,speed,andlowcost.ThisstudyaimstocomparetwoFIAmethodsforcyanidedetermination:spectrophotometryandelectrode-basedmeasurement. MaterialsandMethods: Samplesofwaterwerecollectedfromvarioussources,includingindustrialeffluentsandnaturalwaterbodies.Thespectrophotometricmethodinvolvedtheadditionofacyanide-selectivereagentthatformsacoloredcomplexwithcyanide.Thiscomplexwasthenmeasuredusingaspectrophotometer.Theelectrodemethodutilizedacyanide-selectiveelectrodethatgeneratedameasurablepotentialchangeinthepresenceofcyanide.Bothmethodswereperformedusinganautomatedflowinjectionanalyzer. Results: Theresultsobtainedfrombothmethodswerecomparedintermsofaccuracy,precision,andeaseofuse.Thespectrophotometricmethodshowedhighaccuracyandprecision,withlowdetectionlimits.However,itrequiredcarefulsamplepreparation,includingpHadjustment,andhadalongeranalysistime.Theelectrodemethod,ontheotherhand,providedrapidmeasurementsandrequiredminimalsamplepreparation.However,itshowedloweraccuracyandprecisioncomparedtothespectrophotometricmethod.
