Introduction Greenhouseenvironmentsarecontrolledenvironmentsthatcreateoptimalgrowingconditionsforplantstothrive.Theenvironmentneedstobemonitoredandcontrolledtoensurethattheplantshavethenecessaryconditionsformaximumgrowthandproductivity.Temperature,humidity,light,andsoilconditionsareamongthecriticalparameterstomonitorinagreenhouseenvironment.Traditionally,farmersusedmanualmethodstomonitortheenvironment,suchasphysicallycheckingthetemperatureandhumiditylevels.Asgreenhousefarmingbecomesmoresophisticatedandlargerinscale,manualmethodshavebecomeinefficientandimpractical. WirelessSensorNetwork(WSN)technologyoffersasolutiontogreenhouseenvironmentmonitoring.WSNconsistsofagroupofsensorsthatgatherdatafromtheenvironmentandtransmitittoacentrallocation.TheadvantageofWSNtechnologyisthatitcancoveralargeareaandcollectdatafrommultiplepointssimultaneously,makingitanidealsolutionforgreenhousemonitoring. SystemArchitecture ThearchitectureofagreenhousemonitoringsystemusingWSNtechnologyconsistsofseveralcomponents:sensornodes,gatewaynodes,andacentralserver.Thesensornodesareplacedthroughoutthegreenhouseenvironmentandcollectdataontemperature,humidity,light,soilmoisture,andothercriticalparameters.Thegatewaynodesserveasabridgebetweenthesensornodesandthecentralserver.Theycollectthedatafromthesensornodesandtransmitittothecentralserver.Thecentralserverreceivesthedata,processesit,andprovidesthefarmerwithreal-timeinformationaboutthegreenhouseenvironment.
