Introduction Opticalfrequencycombsaredevicesthatgenerateaseriesofevenlyspacedopticalfrequencies,withpreciseandaccuratecontrolofthefrequencyandphaseofeachcombline.Opticalfrequencycombshavebeenwidelyusedinavarietyoffields,suchastimeandfrequencymetrology,spectroscopy,andcommunications.Traditionalopticalfrequencycombsaretypicallybasedonmode-lockedlasers,whichrequirecomplexandbulkysetups,limitingtheirpracticalapplications.Inrecentyears,anewgenerationofopticalfrequencycombsbasedonfemtosecondtitaniumsapphirelasers,whicharecompactandrobust,haveemerged,providinganewplatformforpreciseandaccuratefrequencymetrology. Inthispaper,wepresentthedesignandcharacterizationofasingle-chipopticalfrequencycombbasedonafemtosecondtitaniumsapphirelaser.Thecombtoothspacingisdeterminedbytherepetitionrateofthefemtosecondlaser,typicallyintheGHzrange.Thefemtosecondlaserpulsesarecoupledintoahighfinesseopticalcavitytostabilizethecarrier-envelopeoffsetfrequency,whichdeterminesthepositionoftheopticalfrequencycomblinesrelativetoareferencefrequency.Theoutputopticalfrequencycombischaracterizedusingabeatmeasurementwithastableexternallaserfrequencyreference,andwithahighresolutionopticalspectrumanalyzer.Wealsoinvestigatetheapplicationsoftheopticalfrequencycombinopticalfrequencymetrology.
