Introduction Slatefillersarewidelyusedingeotechnicalengineeringapplicationssuchasembankments,roadbases,andlandfillcovers.Theyarepreferredoverothertypesoffillersduetotheirhighshearstrengthandlowcompressibility.However,theshearstrengthofslatefillerscanbeaffectedbyvariousfactors,includingweatheringandcyclicloading.Dry-wetcycles,inparticular,cancausesignificantdegradationoftheshearstrengthofslatefillers,leadingtopotentialinstabilityandfailureofthestructurestheysupport. Dry-wetcyclesoccurwhenmoistureentersandexitstheporespacesofamaterialduetochangesintemperatureandprecipitation.Thiscancauseswellingandshrinkingofthematerial,whichinturncanleadtocrackingandweakeningofitsstructure.Studieshaveshownthatdry-wetcyclescanbeasignificantfactorinthedegradationoftheshearstrengthofvarioustypesoffillers,includingrockfragments,sand,andclay. Theaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheeffectofdry-wetcyclesontheshearstrengthofslatefillersandtodeterminethedegreeofdegradationunderdifferentcyclingconditions.Theoutcomeofthisstudywillprovideinsightsintothebehaviorofslatefillersundercyclicloadingconditionsandaidinthedevelopmentofengineeringtechniquestopreventshearstrengthdegradation.
