Introduction Aquaculturehasbecomeavitalindustrytoensurethefoodsecurityofcountriesaroundtheworld.However,thedischargeofaquaculturewastewaterhasbroughtenormouspollutiontotheenvironment.Aquaculturewastewaterisrichinnutrientssuchasnitrogenandphosphorus,whichareeasilyabsorbedbyalgaeandcauseeutrophicationofwaterbodies.Inaddition,fishfeedandfecesinaquaculturewastewaterarerichinorganicmatter,whichdrasticallyreducesthedissolvedoxygencontentofwaterandcausewaterbodies’hypoxia.Theeffluentfromaquacultureposessignificantenvironmentalrisks,includingharmingfishandotheraquaticlife,makingwaterbodiesunfitforhumanconsumptionandrecreation,andnegativelyaffectingpublichealth. Artificialwetlandsareapopularandefficientbiologicalmethodfortreatingaquaculturewastewater.Unliketraditionalwastewatertreatmentplants,wetlandsystemsprovidebothphysicalandbiologicalfiltration.Thesystem’suniquesoilconditions,plantroots,andmicrobialcommunitieseffectivelytransformpollutantsbybreakingdownorganicandnitrogenouswastes,purifywater,andproducecleanwater. 1.DesignofArtificialWetlandforAquacultureWastewaterTreatment Artificialwetlandshaveuniquedesignprinciplesandrequirementsintheapplicationofaquaculturewastewatertreatment.Thewetlandplantsplayavitalroleincomplexbiogeochemicalprocesses,andthemacrophytesinwetlandsmaximallyusethenutrientsandenergyinthewastewaterandreducewaterpollution. 1.1
