Introduction
TheserviceindustryisanimportantsectoroftheU.S.economy,contributingtoalargepartofitsGDP,employment,andexports.Withtheincreasingglobalizationoftheworldeconomy,manyU.S.servicecompanieshaveexpandedtheirbusinessesoverseasthroughdirectinvestment.However,thesuccessofforeigndirectinvestment(FDI)intheservicesectorisnotguaranteed,asitfacesvariouschallengesandrisks.Therefore,itisimportanttostudythefactorsthatinfluencethesuccessofU.S.servicecompanies'FDIandthestrategiestheyusetoenterforeignmarkets.
ThispaperaimstoexploretheinfluencingfactorsofU.S.serviceindustry'sFDIanditsentrymodesintoforeignmarkets.Inthefollowingsections,wewillfirstbrieflyintroducethebackgroundofU.S.serviceindustry'sFDIanditssignificance.Then,wewillanalyzethefactorsthataffectU.S.serviceindustry'sFDI,includingpoliticalstability,economicdevelopmentlevel,opennesstoforeigninvestment,legalenvironment,andmanagementcapacity.Finally,wewillexaminetheentrymodesofU.S.servicecompaniesintoforeignmarkets,includinggreenfieldinvestment,mergersandacquisitions,andjointventures,anddiscusshowtochoosetheappropriateentrymodebasedonthemarketenvironmentandstrategicobjectives.
Background
TheU.S.serviceindustryisahighlydevelopedanddiversifiedsector,coveringawiderangeofindustries,suchasfinance,transportation,communication,healthcare,andeducation.AccordingtothestatisticsoftheU.S.DepartmentofCommerce,theoutputoftheU.S.servicesectoraccountedfor79.2%ofitsGDPin2018,andtheemploymentinthissectoraccountedfor86%ofitstotalnonfarmemployment.Inaddition,theserviceindustryisalsoanimportantsourceofU.S.exports.In2018,theU.S.serviceexportstotaled$822.7billion,accountingfor32%ofitstotalgoodsandservicesexports.
Asaresultofglobalizationandtheliberalizationoftradeandinvestment,manyU.S.servic
