摘要

Introduction
Buildingfaçadedesignplaysanimportantroleinregulatingindoorthermalcomfortandnaturallighting,aswellascreatingavisualimpactoncityscapes.Withtheincreasingawarenessofsustainabilityandenergyconservation,architectshavebeenexploringvariousshadingstrategiestoreducetherelianceonairconditioningsystemsandimproveindoorenvironmentalquality.Amongthem,externalshadinghasbeenproventobeapromisingsolutiontoachievethesegoals,andalsoaddaestheticvaluetothebuildingenvelope.Thispaperaimstoreviewthecurrentresearchandpracticeofbuildingexternalshading,andproposeprinciplesandstrategiesforbuildingfaçadedesignthatintegratesexternalshadingforbetterperformance.
Literaturereview
Externalshadingsystemsareusuallyclassifiedintotwotypes:horizontalandvertical.Theformerincludessunshadesandcanopiesthatextendhorizontallyfromthefaçade,whilethelatterinvolveslouvers,fins,andscreensthataremountedverticallytocontrolthedirectsolarradiation.LazarovandMahdavi(2019)conductedacomprehensivereviewofexternalshadingsystems,andidentifiedthekeyparametersthataffecttheirperformance,suchasmaterialproperties,orientation,size,andshape.Theyalsoconcludedthatexternalshadingsystemscaneffectivelyreducethepeakcoolingloadandenergyconsumption,buttheirperformancehighlydependsonthelocalclimateandbuildinggeometry.TeitelbaumandKirstein(2020)investigatedtheintegrationofexternalshadingintofaçadedesignbyanalyzingtheshadingefficiency,daylightautonomy,andviewqualityofthreedifferentshadingsystems.Theyfoundthatexternalshadingcanimproveallthreeaspects,andsuggestedthatthedesignofexternalshadingshouldconsiderthebalancebetweenenergysavings,visualcomfort,andindoorenvironment.
