过去进行时由“was/were+动词-ing”组成，表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行动作。常与过去进行时连用时间状语有ateight/nine...(o’clock)yesterdaymorning,atthattime，fromeighttotenyesterdaymorning等。过去进行时着重描述当初正在连续进行动作，它特点是：暂时，连续和未完成，强调过程；普通过去时表示发生过动作或存在状态，即表示动作发生过，而且已经结束了，强调结果。如:
