Introduction OFDMisamodulationschemethatiscommonlyusedinwirelesscommunicationsystems.Itiswidelyusedduetoitsabilitytominimizetheeffectofmultipathfadingandtoprovidehighspectralefficiency.Cognitiveradio(CR)isatechnologythatusesunusedspectrum,usedbyprimaryusers,forcommunicationpurposes.OFDM-basedcognitiveradiosystemsaregainingpopularityduetotheirabilitytoadapttodifferentsignalsizesandtoleverageunusedspectruminanefficientway.Thevariablepoint(VP)FFTprocessorisanessentialcomponentoftheOFDM-basedcognitiveradiosystem,whichallowsthesystemtoadapttodifferentsignalsizes. Inthispaper,aVPFFTprocessordesignandimplementationforOFDM-basedcognitiveradiosystemarepresented.ThemainobjectiveofthisworkistodesignandimplementaVPFFTprocessorthatcanefficientlyprocesssignalswithdifferentsizes.ThearchitectureoftheproposeddesignandtheimplementationprocessusingFPGAtechnologyisdescribedindetail.Additionally,thesimulationresultsarepresented,whichdemonstratesthattheproposeddesigncanefficientlyprocesssignalswithdifferentsizes,andcanadapttochangesefficiently.
