Introduction Mechanicalsealsarewidelyusedinvariousindustrialapplications,especiallyinanimalhusbandry,agriculturalandirrigationpumps,waterandsewagetreatment,andoilandgasapplications.Themechanicalsealisadevicethatpreventsleakageoffluidthroughtheclearancebetweentwosurfacesinrelativemotion.Themechanicalsealgenerallyconsistsoftwoparts,thesealbodyandthestationaryring.Therearevarioustypesofmechanicalseals,includingrotatingandstaticmechanicalseals.Thestaticmechanicalsealismorecommonlyusedinapplicationswherethedifferenceinfluidpressurebetweentheinsideandoutsideofthesealedenvironmentisrelativelysmall. Thestaticmechanicalsealismainlycomposedofastationaryringandamovingring.Thecontactbetweentheringsisthroughthepressureofthefluid.Thestationaryringisgenerallyfixedinposition,whilethemovingringisinstalledontherotatingshaft.Thefluidthatpassesthroughthesealispressurized,whichcreatesabalanceofpressureonbothsidesofthesealtopreventleakage. Staticmechanicalsealsarecommonlyusedinmainpumps,wheretheyplayanimportantroleinensuringstableandefficientoperation.Theuseofstaticmechanicalsealsinmainpumpscansignificantlyreducetheleakagerate,improvethesealingeffect,andreducethemaintenancecostofthepump.
