系统功能语法视角下英语广播新闻主题研究的开题报告 Title:AStudyonEnglishBroadcastNewsThemesfromthePerspectiveofSystemicFunctionalGrammar Introduction: Withthedevelopmentofglobalcommunication,broadcastnewshasbecomeaninfluentialmediuminconveyinginformationtoalargeaudience.Manyscholarshavefocusedonthelinguisticfeaturesofbroadcastnews,includingitsthemes.Themesareimportantlinguisticelementsthatguidetheexpectationsoftheaudience,andprovideaframeworkforunderstandingthecontentofthenews.ThisstudyaimstoexplorethethemesofEnglishbroadcastnewsfromtheperspectiveofsystemicfunctionalgrammar. Researchquestions: 1.WhatarethemostfrequentthemesinEnglishbroadcastnews? 2.Howdothethemesvaryacrossdifferentgenresofbroadcastnews? 3.Howdothethemesrelatetothediscoursefunctionofthenews? Literaturereview: Systemicfunctionalgrammar(SFG)isalinguistictheorythatemphasizesthefunctionalandsocialaspectsoflanguage.AccordingtoSFG,languageservesacommunicativepurposeandreflectsthesocialcontextinwhichitisused.Inthecontextofbroadcastnews,SFGhasbeenusedtoanalyzethestructureandfunctionofnewsstories,suchastheroleoftheheadlineinguidingtheinterpretationofthenews(Martin&White,2005). Severalstudieshavealsoexaminedthethemesofbroadcastnews.Forinstance,Lamme,Lecellier,&Cooren(2011)analyzedthethemesofFrenchandAmericantelevisionnews.Theyfoundthat“conflict”wasaprominentthemeinbothcultures,butthatthetoneofthenewsdifferedbetweenthetwocountries.Similarly,Chen(2001)analyzedthethemesofChinesenewsbroadcasts,andfoundthatthethemeswerecloselyrelatedtothenationalpoliticsandideologyofChina. Methods: ThisstudywillanalyzethethemesofEnglishbroadcastnewsusingacorpus-basedapproach.AcorpusofEnglishnewsbroadcasts,collectedfrommajorinternationalnewsnetworks,willbecompiledandanalyzedusingthecorpusanalysissoftwareAntConc.Themostfrequentthemeswillbeidentified,andthedistributionofthemesacrossdifferentgenresofnewswillbeexamined.Thedatawillalsobeanalyzedfromadiscourseperspective,usingSFGtoexplorehowthethemesrelatetothecommunicativefunctionofthenews. Expectedoutcomes: Itis
