Chinesepapercutsarerichincontent.Theauspiciousdesignssymbolizegoodluckandtheavoidanceofevil.Thechild,lotusandbottlegourddesignssuggestafamilywithalargenumberofchildrenandgrandchildren.Domesticbirds,livestock,fruit,fishandwormsarealsofamiliarobjectsdepictedbyChinesefarmers.Papercutsmadeindifferentareashavedifferentcharacteristics.Shanxiwindowpapercutsaresimpleandbold;papercutsfromHebeiProvinceandShanxiProvincearebrightincolor;papercutsinsouthernprovincesaredelicateandfine.
