BackgroundandLiteratureReview Sialonceramicsareoftenchosenforhigh-temperatureapplicationsbecauseoftheirstabilityandhigh-temperaturestrength.Theyhavehighhardness,goodwearresistance,andoxidationresistance.Sialonceramicsarealsoexcellentinsulators,andtheyhavelowthermalconductivity,lowthermalexpansioncoefficient,andgoodthermalshockresistance(Zhangetal.,2015).Theexcellentpropertiesofsialonceramicsarisefromtheiruniquemicrostructure,consistingofacombinationofnanosizedgrains,elongatedgrains,andplate-likegrains. Oneofthemostimportantfactorsthataffectsthepropertiesofsialonceramicsisthecomposition.Bychangingthecomposition,onecanmodifythepropertiesofthesialonceramic.Forexample,byvaryingtheamountofaluminumandsilicon,thethermalexpansioncoefficient,mechanicalstrength,andelectricalconductivitycanbeadjusted(Luetal.,2015).Similarly,bymodifyingtheratioofsiliconandnitrogen,themicrostructureofthesialonceramiccanalsobeoptimized,resultinginimprovedmechanicalandthermalproperties(Liuetal.,2020). ExperimentalMethods Toinvestigatetheeffectofcompositionandmicrostructureonthepropertiesofsialonceramics,aseriesofexperimentswerecarriedout.Samplesofsialonceramicswerepreparedusingahot-pressingmethod.Theceramiccompositionwasvariedbyaddingdifferentamountsofsiliconnitride,aluminumnitride,andyttria.Themicrostructureofthesialonceramicwascontrolledbyadjustingtheprocessingparameters,suchastemperatureandpressureduringhotpressing.
