Layerdelaminationreferstotheseparationofadjacentlayersinacompositelaminate.Thisusuallyoccursattheinterfacebetweenlayersduetotheweakbondingbetweenthem.Thereareseveralfactorsthatcancauselayerdelamination,includingimpact,fatigueloading,thermalcycling,andmoistureabsorption.Ifthedelaminationisnotdetectedandrepairedintime,itcansignificantlyreducethestrengthandstiffnessofthelaminateandleadtocatastrophicfailure. Inthisproject,wewillinvestigatetheeffectoflayerdelaminationonthevibrationbehaviorofcompositelaminates.WewilluseaFiniteElementMethod(FEM)basedcomputationalapproachtoanalyzethevibrationresponseofthecompositelaminatewithandwithoutlayerdelamination.Themainobjectiveofthisprojectistounderstandhowlayerdelaminationaffectsthenaturalfrequencies,modeshapes,anddampingcharacteristicsofcompositelaminates,whichcanhelpengineerstodesignmorereliablecompositestructures. Objectives: Themainobjectiveofthisprojectistoinvestigatetheeffectoflayerdelaminationonthevibrationbehaviorofcompositelaminates.Thespecificobjectivesare: 1.TodevelopanumericalmodelofacompositelaminatewithandwithoutlayerdelaminationusingaFEMbasedapproach. 2.Tosimulatethevibrationresponseofthecompositelaminatewithandwithoutlayerdelaminationunderdifferentloadingconditions. 3.Toanalyzethenaturalfrequencies,modeshapes,anddampingcharacteristicsofthecompositelaminatewithandwithoutlayerdelamination. 4.Tocomparethevibrationresponseofthecompositelaminatewithandwithoutlayerdelaminationandevaluatetheeffectoflayerdelaminationonthevibrationbehaviorofthecompositelaminate.
